Making Changes to an Old Iris Painting

People had told me that the background on this little eight by ten inch acrylic painting was too dark and stormy, lately I'd begun to agree with them and had decided to try and do something about it.

I wasn't quite sure if I should be changing this painting or not so I decided to take it slowly and start on just one side to that I could compare the results better and decide which style I really liked.

I didn't have any black or brown to paint in for the soil so I mixed red, green and a bit of purple to come up with a close substitute.

I'm told that it's now a brighter, happier painting and I may test that theory by putting it on some merchandise on Zazzle. I'll start by making myself some note cards to write my family and friends to show them what I've been working on lately.

Holiday Greetings and Projects

Hi There!
Happy Holidays! There isn't much gardening going on here these days except for a celery plant I'm growing form the end of a grocery store bunch. (I cut about 2 inches off the bottom of the plant and put it in about an inch of water until it sends out roots and then plant it in soil)

As you can see, this one is doing pretty good. I've been clipping some of the bigger stalks on this from time to time which are still pretty small and using them in various recipes. The small, young and tender bits add more flavor than the large grocery store stalks and of course you can't beat it for freshness.

The only painting that I'm doing these days is a few more dala horse ornaments to put on our Christmas tree.

I'm afraid to get involved in a big painting or anything until all of our company has come and gone for the season.

I'm hoping that things are going well for you and that you'll keep checking the blog to see what sorts of projects are next.

It's likely to be a long, cold winter and we'll have to try to stay busy and make the best of it both for ourselves and for those around us.

Chase those blues away and paint yourself Happy,

Julia

A Post about Posts

We continue to work on the wheelchair ramp by bringing in one post at a time and painting it.

There's no plan to what I'm painting of them. I'm just more or less playing around with random colors and patterns. It's a good way to relax and unwind.

I love to look out the window and see the bright colors against the snow.

It's quite a sight, isn't it?
